We all love to feel pampered and beautiful, but if you’re trying to save money, beauty treatments become a luxury expense and a logical cost to cut.
Luckily you can still treat yourself and feel beautiful without spending big bucks.
Homemade facemasks are surprisingly effective and easy to make. There are many often-used ingredients, like oats, honey, avocado, yoghurt, lemon, banana, olive oil and cucumbers, to name but a few.
This makes it easy for you to experiment with the different ingredients to create a mask that best suits your needs.
Here are a few easy and cheap DIY facemasks that we love and you can apply in the comfort of your home:
Zesty lemon pick-me-up
This mask will lift and tighten your facial skin, and leave you feel completely refreshed.
All you need is 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice with two tablespoons plain yoghurt. Simply combine the ingredients and apply it to your face and neck area. Cleanse your skin before application.
Leave the mixture on to dry, usually about 20 to 30 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water, and then with cold water.
You can use this mask whenever you feel you need a lift, and leave it on for up to an hour for better results.
Radiant yoghurt toner
Yoghurt is great addition to any mask; not only does it gently exfoliate skin, it can clear up blemishes and even out your skin tone.
For this mask you need 1 cup of Greek yoghurt, 3 drops of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey.
Mix the ingredients and apply to your face. After 20 to 30 minutes, rinse and pat dry.
This mask will leave your skin feeling and looking radiant.
Revitalising and relaxing cucumber mask
This mask combines cucumber, honey, milk and brown sugar, all of which are great for your skin. Cucumber has many well-documented benefits for your skin, while honey promotes skin elasticity and tissue growth, brown sugar acts as a natural exfoliant, and the lactic acid in milk perks up aging skin.
You will need ½ a cucumber, ¼ cup of milk, 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
Firstly you will need to peel and blend the cucumber. Blend the cucumber to a puree. In a separate container, mix the milk, honey and sugar. Add this to the cucumber, once pureed, and mix together.
Apply the mask and leave it on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
Wholesome oatmeal and banana mixture
You probably won’t believe all the benefits oatmeal has for your skin. It moisturises, helps to remove dead skin cells, helps treating acne, eczema, rosacea and rashes and relieves symptoms of aging skin, to name but a few.
Bananas contain potassium, which helps to heal skin blemishes, as well as lots of vitamin C.
For this mask you need ½ a banana (make sure it is very ripe), 1 tablespoon oatmeal and 1 tablespoon milk.
Mash the banana and milk to a pulp in a bowl, and add the oats and mix well. Before applying, tie your hair back, as this mixture is a mess once it gets in your hair. It might also be smart to wear a shirt you don’t mind spilling on while doing this.
Leave the mask on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
