Justplay.co.za is a very popular South African competition website where you can win anything from a car to regular cash prizes – no strings attached. But is it too good to be true?

Since at Counting Coins we are always looking for freebies, we decided to have a look at this popular site to see if it is worth trying out.

What is Justplay?

Justplay describe themselves as “South Africa’s no.1 free online competition site”. The site offers visitors a pretty extensive list of competitions that they can enter for free. Current prizes on the site range from a Nissan Qashqai to kitchen appliances, furniture, expensive watches and cold hard cash.

How does it work?

Step 1: Create a profile. The site asks for your name, date of birth, cell phone number and email address in order to create an account.
Step 2: Choose the prize you would like to win and enter.
Step 3: Once you’ve selected the prize you’d like to enter for, you will be asked to complete a short survey. The survey usually consists of about 3 or 4 short questions. They never ask for any personal details, just your opinion on certain products or services.

What does it cost?

Entering the competitions online by completing the short surveys is completely free. However, you are able to ‘buy’ extra competition entries sending SMSs for R1.50.

Are they really giving away these prizes?

Justplay is quite transparent about competition winners. They frequently share their winners on Facebook, and you can also check out the winners list on the website.

I will admit that it seems almost too good to be true. This is a site that gives away extravagant prices without asking players to pay anything – there must be a catch.

The business model, however, does make sense. Businesses and big brands pay Justplay to gather sales leads and opinions from potential customers. In return, Justplay gathers this information by offering massive prices in exchanges for your opinion – no catch.

What else do I need to know?

– Justplay has at least one winner every week.
– You don’t have to be interested in any of the products in the questionnaires in order to be entered into the draws.
– You can enter for as many prizes as you want, and you can enter multiple times for the same prize.
– Winners are selected randomly with the help of computer software.

Justplay is not one of those sites that offer “large” amounts of cash for answering surveys, they simply give you the opportunity to enter a lucky draw by answering a few quick questions.

As a budget-conscious consumer and someone who is always looking for ways to save, you might as well take a chance – you might be lucky and get next month’s groceries for free.
